Craftastic Holiday

I took a vacation from my Etsy shop so that I could have time to devote myself to creating plenty of handmade ornaments and sweet treats before Christmas. I recently got the new iPhone and I can't stop taking pictures with the Hipstamatic. I embroidered a matryoshka and a swallow. The deer is a tiny cross-stitch. Most of these I made with a polymer clay base that I rolled out flat with a rolling pin and cut shapes out of with cookie cutters. Once they were done baking, I glued buttons and ribbons to them. I still have more to paint and embellish. I'd like to create a few more embroidered ornaments too. I'm sticking to red, white and silver for now.

It's supposed to snow on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. So excited.

Sweet Tooth: Chocolate Coffee Tarts

One of my dear friends asked if we could bake something together today and far be it from me to say no! Here is what we made. It has a shortbread crust, with a hidden layer of  mascarpone with cinnamon, nutmeg, and strong coffee added. The top layer is a dark chocolate coffee ganache with grated dark chocolate on top. It was divine.

There is leftover ganache in my fridge now, just waiting to be made into truffles...

Cyber Monday: Seventeen hour sewing marathon

My Etsy store, asoftblackstar, had an amazing Black Friday & Cyber Monday. I spent more time sewing in a single day that ever before, and possibly ever again. Seventeen hours straight. It was quite a feat. I couldn't have done it without the endless cups of hot tea and my love of handmade. Thank you.
